Heightened Alert: Dubai Police’s Warning

Dubai Police have issued a stern warning to residents, urging them to be vigilant against beggars and itinerant butchers who exploit religious holidays, particularly Eid Al Adha, to carry out fraudulent activities. Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, the Director of the Criminal Phenomena Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, highlighted the arrest of 50 individuals involved in such activities during last year’s festivities.

Combating Fraudulent Activities

Brigadier Al Shamsi emphasized the ongoing efforts of the Dubai Police to curb these negative societal phenomena. Through the “Fight Begging” campaign, launched in collaboration with various partners, the police aim to monitor and dismantle the deceptive tactics employed by beggars. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to safeguard the community from the dangers associated with both traditional and electronic begging.

The campaign targets various forms of begging, including those occurring in public places such as markets and places of worship, as well as online scams. The primary goals are to maintain the city’s civilized image, protect citizens from related crimes, and prevent organized begging networks from thriving.

Emotional Manipulation Tactics

During religious occasions like Ramadan and Eid, beggars often capitalize on the heightened compassion and generosity of the public. Brigadier Al Shamsi warned that these individuals frequently use children, the sick, and people with disabilities to evoke sympathy and secure illegitimate financial gains. Such activities, described as organized and fraudulent, are criminal offenses under the law.

Residents are encouraged to donate through official charitable organizations, ensuring their contributions reach those truly in need. This approach helps mitigate the risk of funds being misused by fraudulent parties.

Health Risks from Itinerant Butchers

In addition to cautioning against beggars, Dubai Police have also highlighted the dangers posed by itinerant butchers. These individuals engage in unsanitary slaughter practices that pose significant threats to public health.

Brigadier Al Shamsi explained that these butchers often fail to comply with essential health standards. Slaughtering is conducted in non-sterilized environments, and tools are inadequately cleaned, leading to potential health hazards. The public is advised to avoid using such services and instead rely on licensed butchers who adhere to strict hygiene regulations.

Reporting Suspicious Activities

Dubai Police have set up several channels for residents to report any suspicious activities involving beggars or itinerant butchers. The public can call the toll-free number (901) or utilize the “Police Eye” service available on the Dubai Police smartphone app. For cases involving electronic begging, reports can be submitted through the “E-crime” platform.

By leveraging these reporting tools, residents play a crucial role in assisting law enforcement efforts to maintain public safety and uphold the city’s reputation as a secure and civilized environment.
