Dubai: A Kazakhstan resident experienced an unexpected twist in his life after winning a studio apartment in Dubai, an event he initially dismissed as a scam.
A Surprising Revelation
Shynggyskhan Rysbek, a 34-year-old videographer from Almaty, Kazakhstan, was stunned when he received a message about his win. It was part of the ‘Win Your Home in Dubai’ campaign, a collaboration between Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) and Dubai Chambers. The initiative encouraged residents and tourists to spend a minimum of Dh500 at over 1,000 brands in Dubai, with the chance to win a studio apartment in weekly draws and a two-bedroom apartment in the grand finale.
Rysbek, who participated during a recent holiday in Dubai, was at work when he got the notification. Initially, he was skeptical and suspected a scam. “I was filming at work when I saw the message. I ignored it, assuming it was fraudulent,” Rysbek explained. His doubts persisted even after receiving a follow-up call from a DFRE representative, until he verified the legitimacy of the campaign.
Verification and Realization
Despite receiving proof, Rysbek remained doubtful. It was only after a thorough investigation into the promotion and learning that he was the second person to win that he accepted the reality of his win. “It seemed impossible to win something so significant,” he remarked.
Once convinced, Rysbek shared the news with his family. He recounted the emotional moment he called his wife: “It was an unforgettable moment for both of us.”
The Winning Moment
Rysbek’s participation in the promotion came during a family trip from June 7 to 17. Although they had visited Dubai multiple times, the allure of the city’s modernity and opportunity consistently drew them back. He had noticed the campaign’s advertisements but paid little attention until the last day of their trip. “We decided to try our luck with a single receipt worth Dh5,599,” he said.
Returning to Kazakhstan, the family forgot about the entry until the life-changing notification arrived. Rysbek reflected on how a seemingly trivial decision had turned into a monumental event in their lives.
A New Chapter
Already owning a two-bedroom apartment in Almaty, Rysbek appreciates the importance of this new property. “This win opens up unimaginable opportunities for our future,” he stated, considering the apartment not just as real estate but an investment in his family’s future.
Before this, relocating to Dubai had never crossed his mind. However, owning property in such a globally connected city has prompted Rysbek to contemplate the possibilities. As a videographer, he now sees Dubai as a potential hub for his career.
Wider Impact
Since the win, Rysbek has been flooded with inquiries from friends and family, intrigued by his Dubai experience. “Even before this, I always recommended Dubai for its safety, cleanliness, and myriad opportunities,” he said. Now, with his win, even more of his acquaintances are eager to explore the city.
Rysbek recently traveled back to the UAE to collect his prize and officially became a property owner in Dubai. Reflecting on the experience, he expressed excitement for future visits: “Winning the apartment has made this trip unforgettable, and I’m optimistic about more amazing experiences to come.”
