Dubai Police Launch Cybercrime Awareness Campaign in Al Quoz
In a proactive move to combat the rising threat of cybercrime, the Dubai Police have engaged directly with 478 workers in the Al Quoz area through a comprehensive community awareness initiative. This event is part of the broader efforts during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, observed each October, and aims to educate workers on identifying and mitigating online threats.
Community Engagement at Al Naboodah Complex
Taking place at the Al Naboodah Complex, the Al Quoz Community Forum served as the inaugural session in a series of awareness activities planned by the Positive Spirit Council. The initiative was organized in collaboration with the General Department of Police Stations and Bur Dubai Police Station, alongside various strategic partners. The primary goal is to extend digital safety education to diverse societal groups, particularly vulnerable sections like laborers.
Practical Guidance Against Cyber Threats
Attendees were provided with practical advice on recognizing and avoiding common cyber threats, such as suspicious links, fraudulent messages, and scam calls. The sessions detailed the methods employed by cybercriminals to extract sensitive personal information and gain unauthorized access to bank accounts. Workers were cautioned against sharing personal details, passwords, or confidential codes indiscriminately and encouraged to verify unexpected digital communications.
Emphasizing the Importance of Reporting Cybercrime
An essential part of the forum was educating participants on the significance of reporting cybercrimes through Dubai Police’s official channels. Instructions were given on how residents can seek help when encountering dubious online activities, emphasizing the community’s role in enhancing collective cybersecurity.
Commitment to Community Safety
Fatima Ahmad Bohjair, Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council, underscored the initiative as part of Dubai Police’s commitment to engaging with the community, particularly workers, through informative and interactive programs. She highlighted that cybersecurity is a collective responsibility, starting with awareness and the ability to discern safe practices from potential risks.
“This campaign, launched during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, signifies our dedication to addressing emerging security challenges and bolstering digital safety for workers,” Bohjair stated. “Our ongoing efforts aim to enhance community safety, improve living standards, and reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a secure and cohesive society.”
Future Campaigns and Strategic Partnerships
The Positive Spirit Council, in cooperation with Dubai Police departments, stations, and strategic partners, plans to continue organizing similar awareness campaigns. These initiatives are designed not only to fortify community safety but also to improve the quality of life and maintain Dubai’s status as a city synonymous with security and social cohesion.
The forum witnessed participation from Major Faisal Ahmed Al Sayegh, Director of Al Quoz Police Post, along with representatives from participating organizations and strategic partners. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort required to tackle the challenges posed by cyber threats in today’s digital age.
