UAE wet winter El Nino rain

The United Arab Emirates is preparing for an uncharacteristically wet winter season as El Niño conditions are set to bring above-average rainfall through March 2027. This announcement comes after the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) released a detailed weather forecast highlighting the influence of the climatic phenomenon.

El Niño’s Influence on UAE Weather

El Niño, characterized by unusually warm sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean, has intensified, with some Pacific regions reporting temperatures 2.3°C above historical averages. This natural climate pattern is expected to significantly affect the UAE’s weather, bringing both temperatures and precipitation levels near to or above average for the upcoming months.

Forecast for the Upcoming Months

According to the NCM, the period from November 2026 to March 2027 will see increased rainfall across the UAE. The eastern and southern parts of the country, including Fujairah and Al Ain, are already experiencing convective cloud formations, leading to precipitation. Residents are advised to prepare for more frequent rain showers, which could impact daily activities and transportation.

Current Weather Conditions

Today, the UAE is experiencing fair to partly cloudy skies, with the potential for rain. The NCM has also warned of increased humidity at night and early morning, particularly over coastal areas, which may lead to fog or mist formation. Drivers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi should exercise caution due to potentially reduced visibility during these times.

Temperature Overview

Despite the forecasted rain, temperatures remain high, with most emirates experiencing mid-30s Celsius. Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah are expected to reach a maximum of 38°C, while Dubai, Sharjah, and Umm Al Quwain will see highs of 37°C. Fujairah remains cooler, with temperatures peaking at 34°C.

Maritime Conditions

The seas surrounding the UAE are currently calm, with slight conditions reported along both the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman. Onshore waves are expected to rise to two feet, while offshore waves may reach three feet, according to the NCM. This tranquility offers favorable conditions for maritime activities but should be monitored as weather patterns shift.

Temperature Details Across Emirates

Here’s a detailed look at today’s temperature highs and lows:
