Dubai’s Education Sector: A Vision for 2026-27

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai has set forth a comprehensive plan for the 2026-27 academic year, focusing on enhancing educational outcomes, cultural identity, and student welfare. With an emphasis on schools with high numbers of Emirati students, this plan aims to elevate educational standards across the emirate.

Key Focus Areas: Enhancing Education and Cultural Identity

KHDA’s agenda includes a robust strategy to fortify the cultural identity and Arabic language proficiency among students. In addition, there is a significant push towards improving the wellbeing and safety of students, ensuring a supportive environment for learners. Empowering parents and expanding affordable educational opportunities are also central to this year’s objectives.

Attracting Global Talent: Expanding Higher Education and Research

Continuing its mission to position Dubai as a global education hub, KHDA plans to attract more international higher education institutions and students. Efforts will also be directed towards bolstering research, innovation, and future skills such as artificial intelligence and financial literacy. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance career readiness and create diverse educational pathways.

Media Majlis: A Platform for Dialogue and Development

The KHDA Media Majlis served as a platform for discussing these priorities with media representatives and educational leaders. The session focused on the implementation of the Education 33 (E33) Strategy, which has introduced over 20 transformative initiatives and 28 policies aimed at placing learners at the heart of the educational process.

Director-General Aisha Miran emphasized the strategic vision guiding KHDA’s work, stating, “Dubai’s Education 33 Strategy is our compass, guiding us towards an education ecosystem that meets the needs of every stakeholder.”

Growth in Dubai’s Private Education Sector

Dubai’s private education sector continues to flourish, with a reported 4.6% growth in student enrollment. The emirate has welcomed 51 new private educational institutions over the past two academic years, significantly expanding capacity and choice for students and parents alike. This year alone, 26 new institutions, including schools and early childhood centers, have opened, adding thousands of new seats.

Empowering Community Engagement

In line with its community-focused approach, KHDA plans to launch new councils for students, parents, and educators, providing a platform for these groups to contribute to educational development. This initiative underscores KHDA’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and participatory education environment.

Quality Assurance and Future Initiatives

KHDA will resume quality assurance visits to private schools, maintaining rigorous performance standards. Additionally, the continuation of the City of Students initiative aims to enhance the higher education experience in Dubai, attracting international students and talent.

Future Outlook: Building on Success

With the opening of two renowned international universities, including Peking University HSBC Business School and the American University of Beirut’s Dubai campus, the higher education landscape in Dubai is set for a significant transformation. These developments, coupled with a 29% increase in higher education enrollment over the past three years, reflect the emirate’s growing appeal as an education hub.

KHDA’s strategic focus for the 2026-27 academic year represents a holistic approach to education, balancing cultural identity, academic excellence, and community engagement. As Dubai continues to grow as a global educational leader, these initiatives will play a critical role in shaping the future of learning in the region.
