Emirates Prepares for Summer Surge of Solo Young Travelers
As summer holidays begin, Emirates is anticipating a significant increase in young passengers traveling solo from Dubai. Over 3,500 minors are expected to utilize the airline’s dedicated Unaccompanied Minors Service in the next two weeks, marking one of the busiest periods for family travel.
Comprehensive Support for Young Flyers
Emirates has long been committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for young travelers. Over the past five years, more than 250,000 children have flown independently using the airline’s services, with popular routes linking Dubai to countries such as the UK, Russia, Kenya, France, India, and Egypt. The service, catering primarily to children aged 5 to 12, provides extensive support from check-in through to arrival.
Booking and Eligibility
Parents can book the Unaccompanied Minors Service up to 24 hours before departure. While mandatory for children aged 5 to 12 traveling alone, those aged 12 to 15 can opt to fly independently or with additional support through the Young Passenger Service, available for a nominal fee. All young travelers are charged at adult fare rates, ensuring equal access to services.
Starting the Journey with Comfort
Upon arrival at Dubai International Airport, young passengers are welcomed to the newly refurbished Unaccompanied Minors Lounge. Here, they can enjoy amenities such as PlayStation 5 Pro consoles, free Wi-Fi, and refreshments while awaiting their flight. The lounge offers a secure environment where children can relax under the supervision of Emirates staff.
In-Flight Experience
Emirates ensures that the in-flight experience for young travelers is both safe and enjoyable. A dedicated Emirates specialist accompanies each child from check-in through security and boarding, ensuring a seamless transition to the aircraft. Onboard, the cabin crew provides continuous support, catering to dietary preferences and ensuring the child is comfortable throughout the journey.
Entertainment and Engagement
The airline’s award-winning inflight entertainment system, ICE, offers an extensive library of children’s movies, TV shows, and games. From Disney classics to the Harry Potter series, there is something for every young traveler to enjoy. Additionally, Emirates offers special services, such as birthday celebrations with cakes and Polaroid photos, to make the journey memorable.
Arrival and Connection Services
Upon reaching their destination, young passengers are met at the aircraft door by an Emirates specialist who facilitates their journey through the airport to the arrivals area. For those on connecting flights, the airline provides a lounge where children can rest before their next flight. Strict guidelines ensure that the maximum connection time does not exceed eight hours without prior approval.
Commitment to Safety
Emirates places paramount importance on the safety and security of its young travelers. Comprehensive procedures and guidelines are in place to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey for all unaccompanied minors. The airline’s dedication to family-friendly travel continues to set a benchmark in the aviation industry.
